Jacob B. Carson, Jr., 87, of Rising Sun, MD passed away peacefully at his home Friday, June 24, 2016 surrounded by his loving family.
Born, October 21, 1928 in West Grove, PA, Jake was the son of the late Jacob B. Carson, Sr. and Ida (Bare) Carson. Jake served his county proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps., U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard, and the Reserves. After his military career, he returned home to the family farm. He and his father owned and operated Greenhurst Farm and Jake continued to operate the farm with his loving wife, Barbara and son, Steven. It was an award winning Guernsey farm. They were chosen 2005 Cecil Soil Conservation District Cooperator of the Year and received a similar award from the Maryland Department of Agriculture. Jake was a member of the American Legion Post 194, Janes United Methodist Church, the Maryland Farm Bureau, and several other organizations. Jake was an avid reader, history buff, beekeeper, Master Gardener, and amateur archaeologist. He was a generous man who contributed to many worthwhile charities, particularly those that helped Native Americans.
Jake is survived by his devoted daughter, Carolyn Fletcher and her husband, Wayne of Chestertown, MD; brother, Donald Carson and wife Barbara of Melbourne, FL; step-grandsons, Thomas Fletcher and family of Rock Hall, MD and Robert Fletcher and family of Crumpton, MD; beloved niece, Juanita White of Colora, MD, who spent many cherished hours with him; sisters-in-law, Evelyn White of Colora, MD and Madolyn Harris of Rising Sun, MD; brother-in-law William H. Cox of Plantation, FL; and so many loving nieces and nephews. Including his parents, Jake was preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia Barbara Carson, daughter, Dottie Ann Carson, his son, Steven Carson, and his brother, Harold Carson.
A service honoring Jake’s life will held at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911 on Friday July 1, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family may call at the funeral home Thursday, June 30, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. or one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held in Ebenezer Cemetery. In addition to flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to the “Leukemia and Lymphoma Society” and sent in care to the funeral home.
