






















Irene Anna Lanahan, age 81, of Rising Sun, MD passed away Wednesday July 19, 2017 after battling a serious illness. Born in Swarthmore, Pa. on June 22, 1936 to the late Ambrose and Helen (Hehn) Wilson.
Irene was a graduate of Springfield High School. After high school she worked as a secretary for State Farm Insurance. In November of 1957 she married Joseph W. Lanahan and started a family. She was a loving and caring homemaker devoted to her family and friends. Irene had a soft spot in her heart for many a stray animal hence volunteering at the Delco SPCA. A passion for travel, she shared many an adventure with family and friends. At retirement Irene and Joe welcomed all to their wonderful home “Lanahan’s Lair” in Kentmore Park MD.
Her remaining years battling Parkinson’s Disease were spent at Calvert Manor where she received wonderful compassionate care. Irene will be terribly missed and always treasured in our memories.
She is survived by a son, William A. Lanahan of Landenberg PA, daughters Christine Murphy of Hereford NC, Diane Knittel of Avondale PA, and Rebecca Woodall of Galena MD, grandchildren William Lanahan, Ryan Lanahan, Brandon Callahan, Kali Murphy, Lara Knittel, Quinn Knittel, Rachael Woodall, and William Woodall.
Services will be Friday, June 15, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Please meet at R.T. Foard & Jones, Inc., 122 West Main Street, Newark, 19711 at 1:00 PM to process to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or Calvert Manor’s Nursing Scholarship, c/o Foard Funeral Home, PO Box 248, Rising Sun, MD 21911.
