On Saturday, March 16, 2013, Honora went home to be with the Lord.
Born in Newark on April 9, 1935, Honora was the daughter of the late John and Annie Tweed Dwyer. She was a 1953 graduate of Newark High School. Her work career began when she was 14 at the Newark News Stand; she then held several top administrative positions before her 30 year career at Caravel Academy began, where she was secretary to the head master. The Caravel children, faculty and staff became her extended family. Honora will be remembered as a devoted mom and Nana. Her most proud moments came from watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren develop into their own personalities which she lovingly helped form. The holidays were celebrated to the hilt; Honora displayed family heirlooms with much pride, which portrayed her love of family. Honora, “Mother Nature”, cherished flora and fauna, spending years creating a beautiful environment she always referred to as “her woods”. Most of all, her passion was caring for others.
She is survived by her daughter Deborah Menaquale and her husband, Nick; four grandchildren, Forrest Flanagan and his wife Denise, Shelly Kelley, Nicholas Menaquale and Anthony Menaquale and his wife Jacki; 7 great grandchildren, Forrest, Jr., Ethan, Ryan, Abby, Adriana, Dominick and Gianna. She also leaves behind her sister, Suzanne Obykhan, her brother John Dwyer, his wife Theresa, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Alfred E. Silicato, grandson-in-law, Fran Kelley and brother in law Abraham Obykhan.
A service honoring her life will be held at Caravel Academy, 2801 Del Laws Road Bear, DE 19701 on Friday March 22, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family may call at Caravel Academy on Thursday evening from 6 – 8 pm or one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Newark Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Caravel Academy c/o R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main St., Newark, DE 19711.
