Hilda M. White, 90, of Wilmington, DE, passed away at St. Francis Hospital on October 3, 2012 surrounded by her family.
Born in New Castle, DE on January 18, 1922, Hilda was the daughter of the late Clayton and Ella Stubbs Hewes. She graduated from William Penn High School and retired from DuPont Experimental Station after 30 years service as a lab technician. She was an active member of Salem and Christiana United Methodist Churches. An avid lover and aficionado of jazz, Hilda especially enjoyed Benny Goodman, Louis Armstrong, Eddie Condon and Billie Holiday. She loved big band music and sang locally as a teenager. During their marriage, Roy and Hilda enjoyed going to dances locally with friends and family. She was devoted to her family and was known by many as a great cook and baker, renowned for her coconut cake and her rice pudding.
She is survived by three daughters, Judy Dickinson of Claymont, DE; Pam White of Claymont, DE and Jennifer Knight and her husband Jay of Smyrna, DE; four grandchildren, Rodney Stormer, Lee Butterworth, Jody Dickinson and Jeffrey Dickinson; a great grandchild, Jenny Stormer; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years Leroy C. White, her grandson Jeffrey Stormer and two brothers, James and Clayton Hewes.
Services will be held at Christiana United Methodist Church 21 West Main St., Christiana, DE 19702 on Tuesday October 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family may call at the church beginning at 10 am.
