Henrietta “Sis” B. Brown-Shapiro of Hartly, DE, age 77, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2021. She was born in Elk Mills, MD on July 1, 1944 to the late John S. Lockard and Marie L. (Mahler) Lockard.

Sis enjoyed crafting, crocheting, baking, traveling and frequently played Bingo. She liked to go to yard sales and shopping at thrift stores. Sis was an avid reader as well as a football fan, always rooting for her favorite team the Seattle Seahawks. She found her greatest joy in spending time with her family as a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Sis is survived by her husband of 14 years, Neal H. Shapiro; 5 children: Donald L. Brown, Jr. (Michele) of Townsend, DE, Robert D. Brown of Hartly, DE, Louis “Brad” Hendricks (Sandra) of New Castle, DE, Marie Lewandowski of Hartly, DE, and Donna Eldreth (James) of Newark, DE; 25 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters: Frances Pugh of Elk Mills, MD, Leonia Green of Newark, DE, Louise Burke of Georgia, and Ninette Pytko of Florida; and 2 brothers: Louis Lockard of Elkton, MD and John Lockard of Wisconsin.

In addition to her parents, Sis was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Donald L. Brown, Sr.; daughter, Jeanann Mora-Ramierz; 2 sons-in-law: George A. Merritt, Jr. and David Lewandowski, Sr.; 5 grandchildren: Johnniemae Brown, Lisa Taylor, Larry Taylor, Jr., Brent Leary, and James Oscar Eldreth, Jr.; sister, Eleanor Fisher; and brother, Amor Lockard.

A celebration of Sis’ life will be held at 11am on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711, where family and friends may begin visiting at 10am. Burial will follow at Cherry Hill Methodist Cemetery.
