Helen Virginia Crawford, age 99, of Chesapeake City, MD, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Broadmeadows Nursing Home in Middletown, DE. She was born on January 1, 1919 in Rural Retreat, VA to the late James V. and Mammie May Vaught Sage.
In her younger years, she worked at the Triumph Plant during World War II. She became a home maker caring for her husband and family. She loved bowling and was a member of several leagues throughout her life. She continued to bowl into her early 80’s. An avid sports fan, she enjoyed whatever sport that was on the television at the time, often critiquing the coaches, players and referees over their play or decisions. Her favorites were any college games or the Baltimore Orioles. In her spare time, she enjoyed puzzles, and tending to the many varieties of plants and flowers that she kept. She will mostly be missed for her homemade rolls and special potato salad that she provided at family gatherings.
She is survived by her sons, Archie Crawford III, and his wife Sandy, of Escondido, CA, and David Crawford, and his wife Terri, of Middletown, DE; three grandsons and two granddaughters; one great grandson and three great granddaughters; and one great great granddaughter.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband Archie Crawford, Jr.; daughters, Billie Marie Beltran, and Dorothy Jean Crawford; son, Donald Crawford; and three brothers and two sisters.

A Celebration of Helen’s Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A. 318 George Street, Chesapeake City, MD 21915. Friends and family may visit beginning at 12:00 PM noon. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Chesapeake City, MD.
