Helen S. Wyres, 95, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully November 5, 2012 at Millcroft Nursing Home.
Born on July 29, 1917 in Queens, NY, Helen was the daughter of the Harry and Katherine Kircher Baker. She graduated from Hillside, NJ High School in 1934, where she was active in basketball, field hockey and cheerleading. She went on to work for the Prudential Insurance Co, in Newark, NJ for several years. She then married James Wyres and was a homemaker, caring for her family for 56 years until James’ death. While living in the Newark area for over 40 years, Helen was active at the Newark Country Club and volunteered at Union Hospital, Elkton, MD. She was an avid Phillies fan and would not miss a game.
Helen is survived by two sons, James H. Wyres and his wife Clare of Voorhees, NJ and her loving grandchildren Dan and Tracey; and Jere H. Wyres of Newark. She also leaves behind her devoted friend, Diane Button who faithfully visited and cared for her.
A funeral service will be held at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main St., Newark, DE 19711 on Friday November 9, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Friends and family may call at the funeral home beginning at 12 noon. Burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, and in gratitude for the care she received, memorial contributions may be made to the Millcroft Employee Appreciation Fund c/o the funeral home.
