It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Wife, Mom, and MomMom, Helen Louise Myers, on December 28, 2022. Helen was born on September 29, 1940 in Elkton, Maryland, to the late Harry and Edna May (Harrigan) Reph. She grew up along the canal in Chesapeake City with her 2 sisters and 3 brothers.
Helen met her future husband, Harold Myers, in the spring of 1957, and the two would eventually marry on April 10, 1960, thereafter choosing to start their family in Newark, Delaware.
Over many years, the Myers home was a gathering place for family and friends, who often got to enjoy Helen’s home-cooked meals, especially her famous chicken and dumplings. The family enjoyed numerous vacations up and down the east coast, and Helen and Harold enjoyed many years at their trailer at Tall Pines in Lewes with their faithful Beagle, Shiloh. Helen also enjoyed day trips to Amish shops and to see the fall foliage in Lancaster. She was always an avid reader and also enjoyed a good football game, especially the Philadelphia Eagles and Ohio State University. Helen got such enjoyment when attending the numerous sporting events and school activities of her grandchildren.
Over this last year, Helen’s daughter and son-in-law placed bird feeders outside her bedroom window for her to enjoy the daily activities of her birds and squirrels. You could often hear Mom yelling “that darn squirrel took all the bird food again, Harold!”
Helen is survived by her loving and loyal husband of 62 years, Harold Myers, along with their three daughters: Judi, Cathy (Philip Nye) and Debra Myers (Keith Barrett). Helen is also survived by her special grandchildren: Jenny (Dustin), Matthew, Brandon and Jason; and her cherished great-granddaughters Alyssa and Quinn. Although not related by blood, Mom considered many to be her chosen family.
Our family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the following for their wonderful care and guidance over the last year: Dr. Melissa Morgan-Gouveia and her staff; Bayada Home Health, especially “her girls” Christina, Amy, Rosa, and Amy O. And special appreciation goes out to the entire staff of AccentCare Hospice Wilmington, most especially nurse Becky, for taking care of Mom and our family.
All services will be private per Helen’s wishes.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Aetna Fire Company Newark, AccentCare Hospice Wilmington, or Sunday Breakfast Mission.
