Helen Jane Brasure, age 77, of Bear, Delaware, passed away on December 1, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Darby, Pennsylvania on November 7, 1948, she was the cherished daughter of the late John and Helen (Myers) McDermott and the devoted wife of 35 years to Daniel Brasure, Sr.
Helen first worked as a customer service representative with Diamond State & Residence Telephone Company, a role in which her personable and welcoming manner truly shined. She later found her calling at New Castle Vocational Technical School, where she spent 14 years in the cafeteria greeting students each day with warmth and encouragement. Her gentle demeanor and genuine care left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She retired in 2017, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and connection.
Helen loved to travel, but nowhere captured her heart quite like Aruba. It became her second home—a place she cherished and returned to every year for two decades. She found joy in its scenery, its warmth, and the memories made there with family and friends. Over the years she enjoyed many hobbies, including ceramics and especially photography, often capturing the beauty of her travels. She also took great pleasure in creating her own greeting cards, which were treasured by those who received them. In her younger years, she bowled in a league, and throughout her life she prided herself on keeping up with modern technology, becoming impressively computer-savvy.
Helen will be remembered for her outgoing and wonderfully sassy personality. She had a gift for turning strangers into friends and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Above all, she adored her grandchildren, who affectionately knew her as “Granny.” Her love for her family was evident in every part of her life, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jacquelyn Whalen.
Helen is survived by her loving husband, Daniel Brasure, Sr.; her son, Dan Brasure, Jr., and his wife Helen A.; her beloved grandchildren: Alexis Widner and husband Justin, Colton Brasure and wife Rebekah, and Savanah Baines and husband Shaine; 11 great-grandchildren; her brother, John McDermott, Jr. and wife Patti; her sister, Colleen Wheatley and husband Bruce; and numerous nieces and nephews who lovingly knew her as “Aunt Honey.”
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 8, 2025, at 12:00 PM at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, 259 East Main Street, Elkton, Maryland. The family will begin receiving friends at 10:00 AM. A private family interment will be held at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery at a later date.
