Helen Inez Bolen Shafer, age 78 of Rising Sun, MD, passed away on November 11, 2012 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Sneedville, TN on June 22, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Tyler and Martha Seal. Helen was a member at Janes United Methodist Church in Rising Sun, MD where she was active in the choir and walking club. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking and music, but her greatest joy in life was being with her family. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.

Helen is survived by 2 daughters, Linda Pierce and husband, Timothy, of Rising Sun, MD, Paula Rixham and husband, Bruce, of Rising Sun, MD.; a stepson, Bob Shafer and wife Samantha of Wilmington, NC, 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by Charles Shafer, Donald Bolen and son Stephen Bolen.

A service honoring Helen’s life is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday November 17, 2012 at Janes United Methodist Church in Rising Sun, MD with a visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Rising Sun, MD. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cecil County Pregnancy Center c/o R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., PO Box 248, Rising Sun, MD 21911.

Helen was a Wonderful Woman who was part of our extended family for the last three decades. This picture of her is perfect. She always had a smile on her face. Helen loved God, she loved life and she loved her family. She will be deeply missed! I love you Aunt Paula!!

Helen was such an amazing, Godly woman. Her love for the Lord shone in her eyes and her life. She leaves a rich legacy to her children, grandchildren and great-children. I will always remember her desire to please her Savior in all she did. May God hide you in the shelter of His love as you grieve the loss of your mother, grandmother and friend,

I didn't know your mom well but I enjoyed her the few times we had a chance to talk. What a classy lady..and sweet. Linda and Paula and family may the Lord cover you these days...keeping your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Love you, Gloria

Helen is in heaven with those whom we have loved and lost. She is certainly receiving her reward!! She was a wonderful, kind and beautiful lady. Her legacy is in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. You are all special and she was very proud of each and every one. Love you!!

I will always remeber Helen's sense of humor and compassion. It is so remarkable that she cared so much about her church community that she helped and participated in youth group activities even when she was a grandmother to kids who were in or younger than the youth group. She was a teacher and a pleasure and a joy to know. I will never forget her sweet, funny, compassionate spirit. We'll miss you Helen.

I am so sorry to hear of Helen's passing. She was a very sweet lady. I have missed her and Charlie since they left Ware. May you fine peace knowing she is at peace now. God Bless
