Helen Suttles Steppe of Rising Sun, MD, age 92 went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 3, 2019. A true lady from the south, she was born in Sandy Mush, NC on September 7, 1926 to the late Andy Lewis and Lelamae (Davis) Suttles.
Helen was a godly woman and strong in her faith her entire life. An avid gardener, she could make anything grow and flourish, having both vegetable and flower gardens. A caring, sweet, and loving person, Helen was a great friend, a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Family was very important to Helen, and she was a proud matriarch to 5 generations, having a personal connection with each family member.
Helen is survived by six children: Patsy (Jim) McWilliams, Loretta Jugler, Russell Steppe Jr., Ginny (Tom) Johnson, Mike (Dawn) Steppe and David (Debbie) Steppe; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren; brother, James Suttles; longtime friend and companion, Carl Russell Steppe, Sr., and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her son, Ronnie Hemrick; daughter-in-law, Bambi Steppe; three great-grandchildren: Baby Jimmy, Baby Andy and Baby Nathanial; two brothers and five sisters.
A celebration of Helen’s life will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at Pleasant View Baptist Church, 150 Dowin Ln, Port Deposit, MD 21904, where family and friends may begin visiting at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at West Nottingham Cemetery.
