Hazel S. Morris, age 92, of Newark, DE, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Season’s Hospice at Christiana Care in Newark, DE. She was born February 16, 1922 in Warwick, New York, the daughter of the late Edwin and Helen Teed Strong.
She graduated from Warwick High School and was an active member of the Warwick United Methodist Church. Hazel graduated from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA with a degree in Home Economics and Industrial Management. She worked
in Boston, MA and Mary Washington College before becoming head dietician at the University of Delaware where she stayed until her retirement in 1984.
Hazel was a member of the Newark United Methodist Church, the Newark Country Club and the Senior Center as well as an auxiliary volunteer member at Union Hospital in Elkton, MD. She was an active member of the American Diabetes Association, the Delaware State Planning for the Emergency Management Resources, Business and Professional Club of Newark, Delaware Restaurant
Association, Mary Washington Alumni Association and the University of Delaware Retired Faculty.
The President appointed her to the National Food Management Association.
She enjoyed golfing, reading, and sports and traveled to Florida in the winter months for several years. She enjoyed her New Jersey summer home for over 30 years.
She was predeceases by her parents, a brother Edwin M. Strong, Jr. and a sister Jean S. Chase.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Helen M. Strong and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 12 PM on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, Inc., 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711. Friends may visit from 6:00 to 8:00 on Wednesday, May 22, 2014 and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
