Harry W. Shriver, Jr. of Elkton, MD, age 86, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017. He was born in Reading, PA on April 16, 1931 to the late Harry W. Shriver, Sr. and Louise Elizabeth (Spare) Shriver.
Harry had a long career as an accountant before retiring in 1996 from Threshold Rehabilitation Center in Reading, PA. He was a former member of Saint Stephan’s United Church of Christ in Reading, PA and went on to being an active member of the Elkton Presbyterian Church in Elkton, MD. Harry had a lifelong affinity for trains and the railroad. His greatest passion was spending time with family.
Harry is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Sylvia J. Shriver of Elkton, MD; daughter, Sheralyn A. Vender of Elkton, MD; two sons: Kevin D. Shriver of Bernville, PA, and Dr. Craig D. Shriver (Hope) of Laurel, MD; five grandchildren: Jessica (Jim), Eric (Ranae), Melissa (Kyle), Brian and Tyler; three great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Arianna and Calvin; and two step-great-grandchildren: Jessica and Kylee.
In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by his beloved nephew, James S. Hoffman and his son-in-law, John F. Vender.
A celebration of Harry’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Elkton Presbyterian Church, 209 E. Main St., Elkton, MD 21921. Family and friends may begin visiting at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reading, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Harry’s honor can be made payable to “Alzheimer’s Foundation of America” and sent in care of R.T. Foard Funeral Home, 259 E. Main St., Elkton, MD 21921.
