Harry E. Horne, Jr., age 81, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at his residence in Middletown, DE. He was born April 18, 1932 in Wilmington, DE to the late Harry, Sr., and Florence (Yeatman) Horne.

A trained electrician, Harry loved to tinker with all things mechanical, especially when it came to cars. He was an exceptional mechanic and that passion showed in his longtime following of NASCAR. Some of his favorite drivers included A.J. Foyt, Richard Petty, and Dale Earnhardt, Sr.. He was also a follower of the Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Eagles and Phillies.

He is survived by his daughter Sheila Whitaker and her husband, James of Rising Sun, MD; grandchildren Caterina Buckland and her husband Curtis of North East, MD, Alexander Whitaker and his wife Claudia of Germany, and Caroline Pauli and her husband Jens, also of Germany; great grandchildren, Ashley Buckland, Curtis Buckland, Zachary Buckland, Sara Buckland, Tamara Whitaker, Hannah Pauli, Rebecca Pauli, and Mandy Stockhaus; brother Billy Horne of Bear, DE; sisters Evelyn Houghton of Elsmere, DE, Linda Horne of Wilmington, DE, and Micky Treml, also of Wilmington, DE; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his former spouse Carolyn Horne, and sisters Florence Cunningham, Dorothy Bruch, and Katherine Brittingham.

A service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Janes United Methodist Church, 213 Walnut St., Rising Sun, MD 21911.

Friends and family may visit one hour prior to the service beginning at 10AM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution checks can be made to the “American Heart Association” and sent c/o R.T. Foard funeral Home, PA, 111 S.Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911.
