Harold J. Newell

Harold J. Newell of Middletown DE passed away on January 19, 2023 at the age of 86. He was the loving husband of Diane Winslow Newell since June 6, 1959.

Born in Norwalk, CT on August 13, 1936, Harold was the son of Earnest A Newell and Winnifred Lucas Newell.

Harold was a 1957 graduate of Norwalk High School and a 1962 graduate of Bridgeport University where he earned a BS in Business Administration.

For ten years Harold worked at Judson Press, the publishing division of the American Baptist Churches, followed by a few years with Christian Herald Magazine and A.J. Holman Company before becoming Special Sales Manager for Cambridge University Press.

Harold was a popular seminar leader for Christian Bookseller’s Association the American Booksellers Association while working.

At Good Samaritan Episcopal Church, Harold became a Stephen’s Ministry counselor and eventually became the lay leader of the ministry. While at Good Samaritan, Harold and Diane led the New Life Healing Ministry together for three years. Harold also participated in the Food Closet Ministry.

During retirement Harold and Diane enjoyed taking many trips to visit the National Parks, Hawaii, Alaska, England, and Italy. Whenever Harold traveled, he always had his camera in hand.

In addition to his devoted wife, Diane, he is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Marsh Newell and sons Cary and David Newell. His daughter, Linda, predeceased him in 1966. Harold and Diane had six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service and internment will be private at the convenience of the family.
