Gwendolyn Christine Polifroni, 67, of Elkton, MD passed away on June 10, 2026. Born on August 22, 1958, in Poughkeepsie, New York, she was the beloved daughter of the late Charles Herbert Croshier, Sr. and Gwendolyn Minnie (nee Wyant) Croshier.
Gwen lived a life marked by service, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to her family, friends, and community. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Gwen carried the values of duty and service throughout her life. Following her military service, she remained deeply committed to helping others. She was an active member of the Chesapeake City, Maryland VFW, serving on its Board and volunteering countless hours in support of veterans and their families. Gwen also volunteered at the food pantry at St. Rose of Lima in Chesapeake City and dedicated her time to House of Hope, always looking for ways to help those in need.
Gwen found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved reading, spending time outdoors, and caring for the birds and critters that visited her home. Her appreciation for nature reflected her gentle spirit and kind heart. Gwen had a special bond with children. All of the neighborhood kids loved her, and she welcomed them with warmth, laughter, and acceptance.
Gwen’s legacy is one of kindness, service, and unconditional love. She touched countless lives through her volunteer work, military service, friendships, and the care she gave so freely to others. She leaves behind a community made stronger by her presence and hearts forever grateful for having known her.
Gwen is survived by her husband of 47 years, Ralph Anthony Polifroni; brothers, John Croshier and wife Linda, Charles “Chuck” Croshier, Jr. and wife Elsie, and Jeff Croshier and wife Donna; Mama Bear’s Boy Mark Thompson; stepmother, Betty Croshier; many cherished nieces and nephews; countless friends; and the many members of her adopted family.
In addition to her parents, Gwen was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Ethel Alberta Birdsong.
Services for Gwen will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to, “Chesapeake City VFW Post 7687” and sent in care of R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 259 East Main Street, Elkton, MD 21921.
