Gladys Jane Wright, aged 81, of Newark, DE, gracefully passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2023. She was born on November 24, 1941, in Woodbine, PA, to the late Harley and Delores Jane (nee, Hammons) Stanley, and she was the devoted wife of the late Darrel Wright.
Gladys was a woman of many passions and unwavering loyalties. As an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies, she made sure never to miss a game, cheering on her favorite teams with zeal. For many years, she served as an administrative assistant in the ladies’ department at Leroy’s before choosing a well-deserved retirement. When she wasn’t immersed in the world of sports, Gladys found joy in doing jigsaw puzzles and following game shows, with a particular fondness for “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy.”
What truly set Gladys apart was her spirited sense of humor and her ability to infuse laughter into any room. She possessed a certain mischievous charm that brought joy to those around her, and she was loved by everyone as much as she loved them.
Gladys leaves behind her loving legacy, carried on by her two devoted daughters, Tina Cox and her husband, John, and Wendy Wardrop. Her grandson, Joseph Gallagher, cherished the bond they shared. Additionally, Gladys is survived by three stepchildren: Michael Wright and his wife, Sandy, Guyetta Hood, and Joan Book, as well as four beloved sisters: Janet Cook, Brenda Budzialek, Gernie Hudson, and Melissa Stanley and close family friend, Danielle Barkley as well as a multitude of extended family.
In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by five siblings: Lora Ewell, Austin Stanley, Robert Stanley, Carrie Hodge, and Larry Stanley.
A heartfelt Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 11:00 AM at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, located at 259 East Main Street, Elkton, MD 21921, where family and friends may begin visiting at 10:00 AM. Gladys will find her final resting place at Harford Memorial Gardens.
