Gerald “Jerry” Patrick Holmes, age 75, of Elkton, MD, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 29, 1940 in Elkton, MD to the late George E. and Myrtle (Shivery) Holmes.
Jerry worked for the Public Works department of the Town of Elkton, a job he enjoyed for 37 years. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing softball in the local league for his beloved Hollingsworth Manor team. A player of renowned skill, he was considered one of the best in Cecil County in his day. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and boating, and he even did a little hunting as well. A lifelong resident, Jerry faithfully rooted for the Orioles and the Ravens. He also enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley when it came to his music choices. An amazingly well known man, he is described by all who knew him as honest, loyal, and caring.
He is survived by his wife Rhonda; a daughter Ashley Brill and her husband, Josh of Elkton, MD; and three grandchildren, Josh, Jr., Aingeal, and Harmony.
A service will be held at 11AM on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, PA, 259 E. main St., Elkton, MD 21921. Family and friends may visit one hour prior beginning at 10 AM. Burial will follow at Elkton Cemetery. To send condolences visit www.rtfoard.com.
