Nancy and family….I am sorry to hear about the passing of George. May your wonderful memories give you comfort at this difficult time. I began my teaching career in Cecil County in 1972. I wish I would’ve known then that you & George were so close by….I lived in Elkton and then in Newark. I eventually returned to PA and retired from the WASD. I understand George was well-liked as a superb educator and administrator……AND of course, as a great husband and loving father. May you continue to keep him close in your heart by treasuring the personal happy times, but also by sharing his stories of his many years in education. May he rest in peace. My deepest condolences, Nancy. 🙏 Carol (Jeselnik) Kinney…Class of ‘68

I will always appreciate the help George afforded to me when I stepped in to be AD at RSHS. As principal he always operated under the theme " What is always best for students" I respected his straight forward and supportive attitude towards his faculty. I will miss my friend.

George was a class act no matter the situation or assignment. Good and trusted friend; professional and student focused as a teacher, athletic director and school assistant principal/principal and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Missed but never forgotten. Rest in peace George.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

My sincere condolences to The Larson Family. He was a great man and will be missed very much. I was extremely blessed to know him as my principal, when he hired me as an employee of Cecil County Public Schools. He loved his family very much, and he always said "Family First." My mother, Katie Sutphin is heart broken, she was his Lead Secretary for many years and thought very highly of him.

I was lucky enough to have him as a principal. He was fair and understanding . I especially remember him bringing in all of his Hallmark Christmas music arrangements. Each year Hallmark makes a new one and George collected them each year for a long time. He would put them on the counter in the office and students would find excuses to go to the office so they could press the button on all of them at once so they were all singing at the same time. It was awesome. He will be missed.

George Larson was my principal when I began my professional career in Cecil County, MD. He was a genuinely caring man who made sure that all of his teachers felt welcome at home, whether they taught for 1 year or many years. He helped me through that very difficult first year of teaching when I wanted to leave the profession. He helped to show me the ropes of what it took to power through the hardships of being a teacher, and he never wavered in his support of me. He was a man of few words. But those were words that you listened to, because he understood what it took to be a great teacher and a great leader. He was always visible in school and you knew that he was the boss and that he was in charge. His students showed a level of respect for him as well as his teachers that is unprecedented in this day and age. Some of my fondest memories of him include when he would bartend for his Rising Sun High School staff at the local vfw on Fridays. I also appreciated that when he would observe me, he would tell me afterwards that I don't know one thing about music, but I know when I see a good teacher doing amazing things. We also had spirited debates about the phillies and the yankees since he was such a big yankees fan. When I left Cecil County to head to Pottsgrove, he was the most understanding individual. He always wished me success and any time that I would see him, he would always ask about how things are going up north. RIP George. The world of education is better because of leaders like you.

George was a fabulous administrator. Looking back on myself as a young 20 something teacher, he handled us well and truly cared about the school and community. I think of his leadership often as I continue my career in education and how wonderful it was to work with him. He was the administrative example I always look to now. RIP George.
Linda Still left a message on December 24, 2024:
Mr. Larson was my first AP and principal 25 years ago. His unassuming nature and steadfast integrity made him stand out as a quiet, gentle giant. Mr. Larson always would say, “What is best for kids?” That was his mantra and it became everyone’s mantra, a question I still echo today when making decisions. I have had countless administrators over the years, but George Larson was by far the most influential leader. We all learned so much from him, even if it came from lessons in proper courtesy of saying “Good morning” before starting the conversation. I still hear him remind me at times because he taught me that taking a moment to be kind and courteous matters and the work can wait 10 seconds. I am not alone when I say I am forever impacted by the leader he was. He saw the strengths in people and helped them develop those strengths. When people still needed development, he provided support, encouragement and mentors instead of harsh criticism. George Larson was the epitome of a great leader and he will never be forgotten. I am truly sorry for the grief the Larsons are experiencing in their tremendous loss of such a great man. I am honored to have been mentored by him. He left a huge footprint on so many of us. My prayers are with all of you. Linda Still

I am so sorry for your loss. George was a wonderful person, administrator, and friend. He hired me at NEMS and always stood up for his employees. Learned so many valuable lessons from him and I couldn't have asked for a better boss. Saw him several times after he retired, he was always smiling, asked about my family and had a good story to tell. The world will be a sadder place without him.

Mr. Larson was so much more than a boss. He was a mentor and friend. I first met Mr. Larson as a middle school student and then got to know him more thru high school at many sporting and band events. After college I had the privilege of working for him. He was such an amazing leader and an amazing friend.
