George Hartman Aurig, Jr., age 92 of Elkton, MD passed away on July 7, 2026. He was born on July 19, 1933 in Philadelphia, PA to the late George Hartman Aurig, Sr. & Hester Hartman (Rowe) Aurig.
George worked as a Verizon cable splicer for over 50 years, beginning when they were Bell Telephone of PA. He also owned/operated a small landscaping business for almost two decades at the same time. In his free time, George was an avid boater/fisherman & a skilled marksman who competed both for his company shooting team & individually, winning many competitions. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, & in his younger days he flew seaplanes along the Delaware River.
He is survived by his daughter, Michele Hofstetter (Frederick), grandchildren Matthew McKean (Courtney) & Randy Hofstetter (Monica), & great granddaughter Madison Hofstetter.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Joan Elizabeth (Cochrane) Aurig and his son, George Hartman “Chuck” Aurig, III.
There will be a private burial held at Sharp’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to “American Legion Post 194” and sent in care of R.T. Foard Funeral Home, 259 E. Main Street, Elkton, MD 21921.
