George Frederick Denney, age 64, of Elkton, MD, passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Union Hospital in Elkton, MD. He was born in Elkton, MD on November 13, 1949 to the late Henry Thomas, Sr., and Helen Young Pyles.
A lifelong resident of Elkton area, George served his country in the Army in Vietnam after high school. Being a skilled craftsman and wood worker, upon his return, he worked as a finish carpenter at various facilities, including Cecil County Schools and for the U.S. Government at Aberdeen Proving Grounds and Perry Point VA Medical Center.
Geoge loved the outdoors and did some hunting and fishing in his younger years. He loved animals of all sorts especially his cats. He was known for his dry sense of humor and his love of British comedy. In his retirement, he could be seen driving his little tractor “the stinkin linkin” back and forth to Sarge’s. He was also a proud member of the Elkton American Legion Cecil Post 15, and the Elkton VFW Post 8175. He will best be remembered by his family and friends as being an “old school gentleman”.
He is survived by his son George Denney, Jr. of Elkton, MD; daughter Sherry Phillips and husband Kelly of Dover, DE; daughter Jessica Lindia and husband Matthew of Hightstown, NJ; son Karl Denney of Charleston, SC; brother Henry Denney, Jr., of Elkton, MD; three granddaughters, Mackenzie, Kathryn and Cecilia; and extended family, mother-in-law Evelyn, and sisters-in-law Margaret, Marlene and Martha; nephew John and nieces Dee and Pam; and a large host of friends. The family would especially like to thank his close friends Greg, Heather, and Scott for their care and concern during his illness.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Gonce.
A memorial service will be held at 3PM on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at R.T. Foard F.H., PA, 259 E. Main St., Elkton, MD 21921. Friends and family may visit one hour prior beginning at 2PM. in lieu of flowers, contribution checks can be made to “Wounded Warriors Foundation” and sent c/o the funeral home.
