George Anthony Klusak

April 3, 1948 - August 30, 2026

George A. Klusak passed away on Aug. 30 at Autumn Lake Healthcare. He was born on April 3, 1948 in Clearfield County, PA.

He received his education degree from California State College in PA and later a master’s degree from Millersville University. George began his career teaching industrial arts at Rising Sun High School and later became an assistant principal, serving many of the high schools in Cecil County in that capacity.

George was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish in both MD and PA. He especially loved that his sons and his grandsons had the same passion for the outdoors. For many years, he managed Fallen Timber Tree Farm, enjoying especially the return of families year after year as they searched for their perfect Christmas tree.

He was an active member of the Rising Sun Lion’s Club for over 50 years, serving in all the various leadership roles and led his life as a devout Catholic.

Following retirement from Cecil County Schools, George worked part-time for Point Blank Enterprises at the Aberdeen Proving Ground. There, he witnessed the testing of body armor with ballistics and logged in results.

He was preceded in death by his father George E. Klusak, and his brother Edward.

He is survived by his mother, Regina Klusak, his wife, Laurel Wirtz, sons Blair (Laura), Brandon (Amy), and Brent (Alec), grandchildren Lucas (Chasity), Mason, Alice, Parker, Camden, and Weston Klusak and his first great grandchild, expected this winter.

Memorials can be sent to the Rising Sun Lion’s Club.

A service will be private, and a gathering for friends and family will be announced at a later date.

I started school with George at South Side Elementary back in the 50s. We were classmates for 12 years. We had our 60th class reunion this past August and I texted George to see if he was going to attend. He never answered me and I found that odd...never dreaming he was ill. I am so sorry for your loss of this gentle man.

I was so sorry to hear of George’s passing. I am his cousin who lives in Altoona Pa. My mother Lee (Leona) and Aunt Ginny were sisters. George and I got to know each other better later in life. Aunt Ginny was my godmother. You have my sympathy. Our Uncle Tom informed me of his passing.

Upon my entry from Delaware public schools to Cecil County Public Schools in 1980 at RS JR SRr High, George was my first co-worker Assistant Principal. We shared many laughs during the work day about Far Side cartoon, Rodney Dangerfield, Mafia nicknames, etc. It surely made the drudgery of lunch duty go by quicker. Even after we were transferred to different schools, we stayed in touch. There were many highlights to our friendship but this dinner out pic captures one of them. So happy you have many great memories of him as I do.

In Memory of George A. Klusak I was saddened to learn of the passing of George A. Klusak. Having known George for more than 50 years, I can say without hesitation that he was a wonderful educator, devoted family man, and valued member of the Rising Sun community. Through his years as a teacher, assistant principal, Lions Club member, and community volunteer, George touched countless lives with his kindness, leadership, and dedication to others. He also found great joy in the outdoors and especially loved sharing his passion for hunting and fishing with his sons and grandsons. George's legacy will live on through the many students, friends, family members, and community members whose lives he enriched. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace, George.

I cut George’s hair for years, he was definitely one of my favorites, always up for a good laugh. He loved his 3 boys and grandchildren dearly, also loved a good mud sale lol. He will be dearly missed, my condolences to Laurel, his Children and families 💙

So sorry for this great loss. He was a GREAT MAN. He literally changed my life. He was there for me the best way he could be, him being one of the few who listened and knew the abuse/trauma and nonsense I had growing up, struggling to get my autistic lil bro off to school, missing the bus because of that, and then struggling to find transportation ways to just get to school at-least by 2nd or 3rd period… so I could be a kid and student myself.. the way he helped instead of punishing for the tardiness so those things didn’t delay me from graduating with my peers. He was a light and beautiful grace of life to me back then, I’ll be forever grateful to Mr. Klusak, that wonderful man. Big hugs to you and your family.

My deepest condolences to George's family, he will most definitely be missed. I have a memory, I graduated from Rising Sun in 1979, George was the Vice Principal, that first day coming in as a 10th grader from North East to Rising Sun High School, I was extremely nervous , George made me feel very welcome and at ease, I was alright from then on, Thank you George 😊 Sharon Skelton Nickle

The news of George’s passing saddens me. He was a good guy. I got to work with him at Perryville High and knew him as a parishioner at Good Shepherd. Church. At Perryville we often had cafeteria duty together. I remember he would often walk by and give me a gunslinger salute, a pistol shat from the hip and a slight nod. He was a generous guy too. I remember going up and getting two beautiful tree for the altar at church. He refused to take any payment.

Mr Klusak was such a kind soul. He was very kind and always had a smile on his face. It was a pleasure to get to take care of him at Calvert. I’ll miss coming and giving him a hug from time to time when I had a free moment. He will be missed 🤍
