December 26, 2023 Dear Tatman Family, Along with your entire Delaware National Guard family, I want to convey our condolences and extend our sincere sympathy on the passing of Chief Tatman. Mere words, although compassionate and gentle, cannot lessen your loss, but we pray that the heartfelt expression of our sentiments will ease your sorrow and emphasize that we, in your Guard family, understand and care. We trust that all your lovely memories will bring you comfort. If there is any way that I, or the Delaware National Guard, can be of assistance, please let us know. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time of sorrow. Sincerely, Michael R. Berry Major General The Adjutant General, Delaware

Gary will be greatly missed on Holly Lane. He was so helpful when Mom’s health started deteriorating. He took her mail to the door every day. She would always tell me about how he was willing to help. He was also so supportive when I was staying with her. He was such a kind and helpful man. He always took time for others.

Gary was a very kind and considerate man. I am sorry to see that he passed. I remember him fondly as I was transitioning from active duty to the DE ANG. I remember, he was getting me set up to go to flight school back in the summer early fall of 1991. I was getting married, getting off active duty, and starting my flight career. With all that was going on in my life, he was like a wise and seasoned Uncle, helping to shepherd me and my new wife into the ways of the Guard. He was a true gentleman!

I knew Gary at Merryland Roller Rink. He played the wonderful organ we skated to. I joined the DE Air NG in 1973 and Gary was one of the first people I met. He helped me settle into my career there.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

I knew Gary quite well because his sister, Joyce, was a good friend of mine. I enjoyed his organ playing, our chats, and Thanksgiving meals with Gary and Joyce. I knew his family and some of his friends, but am not sure to whom to express condolences. Linda, perhaps? Tom? He will remain in my heart along side his sister, Joyce.

I send my sincere condolences to all who knew and loved Gary. He was the most kind and cheerful person, and I loved being his neighbor on Holly Lane. I always knew Gary was looking out for me, and I felt safe with him and Tom next door. He made the world a better place by being in it, and I am very grateful to have known him.

Gary was very close to my mother,Amy Marshalewski. They were great companions. They lived close so he was able to be there for her during her long fight with cancer. One thing he did for me: He made lengthy dance skating tapes for me to practice to in order to increase my stamina for competition. We kept in touch all these years. He will be missed. RIP Gary.
