Gail Masemore Purnell, age 71, of Elkton, MD, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012 at her home. She was born on July 10, 1940 to the late Richard and Sarah (Shaffer) Masemore.
Gail was a 1958 graduate of Elkton High School. She worked from 1958 to 1964 for City Finance, Thiokol and County Bank before coming to work for W. Andrew Seth, in the Cecil County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office on September 8, 1964. Gail began her Clerk’s Office career as a Marriage Clerk spending 15 years in the position until 1979 when she transferred to a Juvenile Clerk position. In 1997, Gail was promoted to Chief Deputy Clerk, a position she maintained until her retirement. She served the State of Maryland for 46 years. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Singerly Fire Company, Women of Moose, VFW Ladies #8175 and the American Legion Ladies Cecil Post 15.
She is survived by her step-grandchildren, Tommy Purnell of Elkton, MD, Heather Purnell of Elkton, MD and Kimberly Mock of North East, MD; two step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Gail was preceded in death by her husband William H. ‘Pinky’ Purnell in 2003.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 29, 2012 at R.T. Funeral Home, P.A., 259 East Main Street, Elkton, MD 21921. Friends and family may call on Thursday, June 28, 2012 from 7-9 pm. Burial will follow at Elkton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan B. Komen for the Cure or the Columbus Thorne Scholarship Foundation, c/o the funeral home.
