Frederic “Fred” Cowan Garber, age 78, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2020. He was born in Waynesboro, VA on June 29, 1942 to the late Harold Lavern Garber and Norma Isabelle (Fisher) Garber.
Fred was a 1963 graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked for E.I. Dupont de Nemours and Company for thirty-seven years, retiring as the Director of North America Logistics, having managed over four hundred employees. Fred was very involved in his community having served as a Boy Scout Leader and a Cub Scout Master, president of a middle school PTA, president of a civic association for homeowners in Delaware, the first vice president of the Lions Club in Chesapeake City, MD, chairman of the board for New Castle County Transportation Management Association and a member of the St. Augustine Church in Chesapeake City, MD.
Fred loved traveling, with Donna, throughout the US, Canada, and Mexico in his motor coach. In his younger days, he enjoyed spending time hunting down South. While living in FL, he loved deep sea fishing. Fred was one of Virginia Techs biggest football fans and loved watching their games. His greatest pleasures in life were spending time with his family and friends. Fred will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Fred is survived by his beloved wife, Donna Marie DeGroff Garber of Lancaster, PA; son, Kevin DeGroff Garber of Perryville, MD; two daughters; Kimberly Ann Womer of Bear, DE and Kristin Lynette Keating of Wilmington, DE; 7 grandchildren and his sister DeNette Garber Stevenson of Richmond, VA. Fred is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harold (Jan) L. Garber, Jr.
.A celebration of Fred’s life will be held at 11AM on September 10, 2020 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, 318 George Street, Chesapeake City, MD 21915 where friends and family may begin visiting at 10AM.
