Age 66, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on June 23 at Arbors in New Castle, DE after a brief struggle with cancer.
Frank was born in Camden, NJ, the son of the late Frank and Eleanor Deck and the brother of John Deck and the late Robert Deck.
Frank was nicknamed Corky by the delivery nurses at Cooper Memorial Hospital in Camden NJ. That name stuck and Frank was known only as Corky through high school and beyond. After graduating from Newark High School, Frank attended Campbell College (where he apparently majored in golf and playing card games) before joining the U.S. Air Force and serving in Germany. He then attended the University of Delaware, where he lettered as a member of the golf team. He worked for a couple management consultant firms and traveled extensively before settling down in Bethesda and working at the World Bank in Washington, D.C. as facilities manager for their five city block complex. He spent most all of his spare time golfing with friends at Bretton Woods. He was laid off in the mid 90’s and moved back North around 2000 when he returned to his golfing roots and started working for Dick’s Sporting Goods in Newark. He advanced with Dicks and was moved to Pottstown, PA. to help open and manage a new store. After the store opened Frank was offered a store managers’ position at the Concord Pike, Wilmington store. That’s when he came down with herpes encephalitis and was very sick for months. He recovered to a great extent but suffered from memory issues. Dick’s took him back working part time in the golf department where he worked up until this April. He enjoyed watching the Phillies and was an avid golfer, at one point playing to a zero handicap at Chantilly Golf Club back in the mid 70’s. Frank is survived by his brother John; his uncle Walter Peters, his cousin Jeff Peters and his wife Donna; his cousin Ray Peters and his wife Sue. Visitation will be at R. T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main St., Newark, DE 19711 on Friday June 28, 2013 from 5-7 pm. Burial will be in a private ceremony at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contribution checks may be made in Frank’s name payable to the Delaware State Golf Association Scholarship Fund and mailed to the funeral home.
