Born January 19, 1949 in Wilmington, DE, Butch was the son of the late Elwood Marshall and Rebecca Ellen (Dehorty) Hanna. Butch dedicated 38 years of service to Acme as a butcher. He loved working with his hands and was always looking for new projects and finding things to fix. He was a kind and giving person who enjoyed helping others and would put others first; no matter what the need, he would be there to lend a hand. However, Butch’s greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Butch is survived by his son, Frank Hanna, Jr and his wife, Cheryl of Dover, DE; daughters, Trudy Reed and her husband, James of Newark, DE, Mindy Essick and her husband, Zach of Newark, DE, and Shawn Rohe and her husband, Ben of Newark, DE; 8 grandchildren, Frank, Duane, Crystal, James, Mark, Rory, Hannah, and Natalie; 3 great grandchildren, Frank, Grace, and Elizabeth; brothers, Roy, Billy, Allan, Buddy, and Tex; sisters, Nancy, Dottie, and Emma.
Including his parents, Butch was preceded in death by his great granddaughter, Ashley Hanna.
A service will be held in Butch’s honor at 1 pm Sunday, January 18, 2015 at R.T. Foard & Jones, Inc., 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711, where family and friends may visit beginning at 12 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to the American Heart Association or to the Delaware SPCA and sent in care to the funeral home.
