NEWARK – Frank Henry Briscoe III, of Newark, passed away at home on February 7, 2024, at age 92. Frank followed his beloved wife, Peggy, into heaven after missing her for many years. Frank was born on October 31, 1931, in Chesapeake City, Maryland to the late Frank H. and Ida Mae Briscoe.

Frank spent his life caring for his big family and his even larger family of friends. He was good-natured, truly wanted the best for everyone around him, and would do anything he could to help those he knew to have enjoyment. He was devoted to his wife Peggy, their four children, spouses, and nine grandchildren. It was a privilege to be one of his own. Frank was the most humorous and entertaining person that anyone who knew him had ever met. He was self-deprecating and clever, and would carry on an unpredictable and wildly entertaining conversation in any situation. He loved people, he saw the best in them, appreciated their good qualities, and you would find yourself becoming the person he credited you to be when you were with him.

Cars were a lifelong passion for Frank. He worked as a supervisor at Chrysler in Newark for three decades, and then retired and sold cars for Brandywine Chrysler for another fourteen years. He spent many happy years working for Bob Jones and drinking coffee with the group of men he worked with there. They fished and played golf and recounted it all again back at the dealership. In his younger days, he worked on cars, helped people work on cars, and always loved to talk about buying cars. If you ever bought a car, or were thinking about buying a car, you would call Frank and talk to him about it, partly for advice, and partly because including him in the experience made purchasing a car more fun.

Frank was born on the river, and grew up on a farm. He enjoyed his childhood on the Elk river, and, when he had a family of his own, boated regularly with other families who became dear, lifelong friends. His children remember water skiing, swimming, picnics, and river cottage and beach vacations. He cared for his yard expertly, at times tended extensive gardens, and even as an elderly man grew tomatoes on the side of the house every summer. In his retirement, Frank and Peggy traveled around the United States and enjoyed visiting new places and shopping in destination locations. Frank enjoyed golfing locally and in Myrtle Beach, and pursued this pastime for fifty years. Frank was a member of Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Newark where he met, married, and attended with Peggy until he died.

He has survived many of his dear friends who studied the Bible and socialized with him and Peggy there for the better part of half a century. He enjoyed going out to dinner after church on Sunday with friends or family.

Frank is survived by his three younger siblings. Grace Vattilano (William), Carol Evans (John), Donald Briscoe (Jane) and four children, Karen Coleman (Kenneth), Connie Kirby (Robert), Richard Briscoe (Dorothy), and Scott Briscoe (Kimberly), who all remain in the Newark area and were close to him throughout his life. His nine grandchildren, Kandra, Kyle, Meggen, Michael, Elspeth, Olivia, Jeremy, Benjamin, and Eric will always carry the memory of Grandpop in their hearts, and remember him to his eighteen great-grandchildren as the beloved anchor of the Briscoe family.

Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Friday, February 16 at 11 am at Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Newark at 308 Possum Park Road. Family will begin receiving friends at 10 am. Burial at Head of Christiana Cemetery. Reception at EP immediately following.
