Frank Charles Forster, Jr. age 94, of Newark, DE, passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Foulk Manor North in Wilmington, DE. He was born on November 21, 1923, in Baltimore, MD, to the late Frank Charles, Sr. and Elsie Viola Bell Forster.
Frank was a high school graduate of the Baltimore Polytech Institute. He then served his country proudly as a Naval Aviator during World War II. Upon his return, he attended and graduated from the University of Maryland. He was a member of the student government and the Sigma Chi fraternity. It was there, he tackled a beautiful woman, who would become the love of his life, and wife of 63 years, Lillian Howle. They moved to Newark when Frank went to work for the Du Pont Company, where he worked for over 35 years in employee relations.
He was a member of the Newark Country Club for over 40 years. Frank was a contract bridge player and enjoyed other card games as well as golf. A life-long tennis player, he was a member of the Elkton Racquet Club for over 30 years. Frank and Lillian enjoyed traveling both in the U.S. and abroad. Frank was a former member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Newark and member of the vestry. He also served as a member and chairman of the Ethics Committee for the City of Newark. Social and charismatic, Frank excelled in the art of conversation, and was known to get a room full of quiet strangers talking in no time. His wonderful conversations will be missed by many.
He is survived by his children: son, Greg Forster, and wife Marcie; daughter, Patty Schubert and husband, Marvin; son, Neal Forster and wife Lori; and daughter, Susan Ulrich, and husband James; seven grandchildren: Andrew Forster, Ryan Cowgill and wife Rebecca, Katie Cowgill, Michael Henderson, Melissa Marrocco and husband Blake, Liz Martin and husband Matt, Tyler Ulrich and fiancée Ashley; and nine great grandchildren: Simon, Layla, Willow, Otto, Landon, Brendan, Colin, Logan and Grayson.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Lillian Howle Forster.
A celebration of Life will be held at 11:30AM on Monday, August 13, 2018 at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, Inc., 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711. Family and friends may begin visiting at 10:30AM. Burial will follow at the Delaware Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Frank’s honor may be made payable to “St. Thomas Episcopal Church” and sent in care of the funeral home.
