It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Francis (Frank) Joseph Young, 70, of Hockessin, DE, who left us on June 8, 2023. He was born on November 12, 1952, in Wilmington, DE, to the late Francis G. Young and Josephine T. (Sobocinski) Young.
Frank was a beloved member of his community, attending St. Hedwig School where he played CYO boys basketball, and graduating from Salesianum School and Delaware Technical Community College. He spent 34 years at Sunoco, Inc. in Instrumentation, where he was highly respected by his colleagues.
Frank was a man of many talents and passions. He was a music enthusiast who loved all kinds of music and could play piano, keyboard, Hammond B-5 organ and accordion. He performed with various local bands in the ‘70s and later shared his love of music with his family. He was also known for his ability to fix anything and was always available to lend a hand when needed. For the past 2 years Frank also facilitated a Course in Miracles.
Frank was an incredibly thoughtful man who loved to joke and make people smile. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Frank is survived by his wife Sharon Wallace Young; a son, Donald “Jay” Sheldon; a daughter, Gina R. Sykora, and her husband Stan; grandchildren: Julia Sykora, Charlie Sykora, Felicia Lorenski, Ashley Sheldon and Zac Sheldon; sister Marie S. Marchese of Northampton, MA; and nieces Michelle M. Marchese, also of Northampton, and Christina M. Fenton of San Diego, CA, together with many more nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Frank is preceded in death by his brother, Charles J. Kupis of San Diego, and daughter-in-law, Allison DiMauro Sheldon.
His legacy will live on through the memories he created with those who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, Francis Joseph Young. You will be forever missed and remembered.
A memorial event and celebration of Frank’s life will be held on Sunday, June 25, at Deerfield Country Club, 507 Thompson Station Rd., Newark DE, from 4 to 7 p.m. All are welcome.
