Francis Joseph Asti, 87, of Elkton, MD, born July 30, 1931, in Penn Hills, PA, died Saturday, December 1, 2018 in his home surrounded by his family. In any case, better very late then never. Fran was a great man. I immensely enjoyed his company and once traveled to the Asti ancestral home in Italy with Fran and his family.
Fran always treated me warmly and as a second son. I learned so much from him how to be self-reliant (fix it yourself!), and how to communicate with people, especially strangers! He could be a hard man to love sometimes, but he was generous to a fault in his community, and was always there to provide support and guidance. He taught me so much about self-reliance, self-confidence, community service, and the strength of extended families. Some of my best memories of him will be our family trips to Italy. From those trips, I learned the magic of making those distant family connections and friendships in different languages and cultures, but always connected through shared family, friendships and love. To the extent that my life is richer for his teaching, guidance, and example, a part of him will always be alive in me.
Thank you Fran, Pop, Nonno. Rest In Peace (and I hope Heaven has a Big Band that needs a clarinet!)
May the memories of the wonderful times you shared together bring a smile and joy in your heart.
I had someone to discuss restoring cars, renovating houses, plus discussing music and attending concerts like Andre Rieu.
All of us will miss him and continue to remember on of our favorite co-workers.
Heartfelt sympathy to the family.

Fran was a man/father/spouse with very diverse skills, a magnetic personality, a passion for science and technology, and an off the charts sense of humor.
See you in April.
