Floyd La Barre, 95, of Rising Sun, MD, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 12, 2014 at Laurelwood Care Center.
Born May 21, 1918, he was the son of the late Floyd La Barre, Sr. and Blanche Watters-La Barre. His father, an engineer on the Erie Lackawanna Railroad, sparked Floyd’s lifetime hobby of model railroading. Floyd also had a love for music. He was an exceptionally gifted trombonist for the majority of his life, first picking up the instrument in grade school. He even played in the Warren County Symphony in New Jersey. Floyd graduated high school in Washington, NJ in 1936. He then went on to Lafayette College in Easton, PA, where he graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1940. After a long career in engineering, he spent 20 years at Curtis Wright Corporation, 4 years at Kearfott Company, and another 19 years at Wagner Electric Company, before he retired.
Floyd is survived by his loving wife of 11 years Gloria Ann Greer; son, Floyd (Rusty) Foster La Barre; Grandchildren, David Arner, Leslie Anette, and Rayah La Barre, Charles and Loretta Tummino; step grandchild; Abi-Gayil; 10 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Including his parents, Floyd was preceded in death by his former spouse of twenty years Marjorie Arner/Williamson and their daughter, Suzanne.
A memorial services for Floyd will be on March 8th at Ebeneezer Methodist Church at 10:30 am.
