Florence Penington Boddy, aged 100, a beloved resident of Conowingo, Maryland, peacefully departed to join her Lord on February 11, 2024. Born in Port Deposit on May 8, 1923, she was the cherished daughter of the late Richard and Elsie (nee, Thomas) Dorsey. Florence was also the devoted wife of the late Milton S. Boddy, who preceded her in death in 1996.
Florence’s life was one marked by steadfast dedication to her home and family. She took immense pride in caring for her household, ensuring it was a haven of warmth and comfort. An avid television viewer, she found joy in watching cooking shows, soap operas, and game shows, with “The Price is Right” holding a special place in her heart. Among her favorite pastimes was indulging in shopping excursions, particularly for clothing, a pursuit that brought her great delight.
However, it was the cherished moments around the family dinner table that truly epitomized Florence’s happiness. She reveled in the company of loved ones during these gatherings, finding immense joy in the simple pleasures of shared meals and conversation. Her favorite culinary delights included delectable crab cakes, potato salad, and the sweetness of lemon pie for dessert.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Florence will forever remember her for her unwavering strength, coupled with a heart overflowing with love and kindness. Her resilient spirit and nurturing nature left an indelible mark on the lives of all who were fortunate enough to cross her path.
Florence had no children; she is preceded in death by her niece Vonzella Denise Wright.
Florence is survived by her nephew Antoine Griffin and his wife Carmen, who she cherished as daughter; children she raised Cathy P. Griffin, and Larry Griffin of Elkton, MD; dear nieces: Felicia Jones, Monica Dorsey-Smith, and Cynthia Epps all from Baltimore, MD; as well as a multitude of extended family members.
In accordance with her wishes, all services will be held privately, honoring Florence’s desire for intimate remembrance. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Brenda and Mabel from Americare Home Health Care, as well as the compassionate caregivers from Amedisys Hospice, for their exceptional care and unwavering support during Florence’s final days.
Though she may no longer be with us in person, Florence’s legacy of love and warmth will continue to resonate in the hearts of those she leaves behind. May she find eternal peace in the embrace of her Lord, her memory cherished forevermore.
