F. Marjorie Beers Whiting, R.N., of North East, MD, age 89, died April 18, 2018 at Calvert Manor Healthcare Center.
Marjorie (Marge, Margie) received her R.N. from the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing in Hartford, CT. She did post graduate work at McGill University in Neurosurgical Nursing. She was a Christian and a member of Rosebank U.M. Church. She had been active in the Mt. Gretna, PA Fire Company Auxiliary; she belonged to the Contract Bridge League, and was a wonderful friend and mother.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, R. Keith Whiting and is survived by two sisters: Marie Louise (Beers) Egan and Barbara (Beers) Walberg of New Milford, CT and a brother William B. Beers of Condon, MT. She was preceded in death by a brother David Dudley Beers, Jr.
She was born in Mt. Vernon, NY to David Dudley Beers, Sr. and Marie Louise (Beeman) Beers on Sept. 26, 1928. She graduated from Roosevelt H.S. in Yonkers, NY and the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing in Hartford, CT. Her post graduate work was done at the Montreal Neurological Institute of McGill University. She worked at the Royal Victoria Hospital during her husband’s years as a Medical Student at McGill University.
Margie was active in her children’s schools as home room mother, cookie maker, and donator of her famous sticky buns. She also filled in as office nurse when needed in her husband’s Medical Practice.
Margie is also survived by four children: Bruce and his wife Jacqueline (Manley) Whiting of Harrisburg, PA, Gary and his wife Kelly (Kohl) Whiting of North East, MD, Kent and his wife Christine Sanchez of Philadelphia, PA, and Susan Whiting and her husband, Henry Hill, II of Tucson, AZ. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Ross (Ashley), Ryan (Ashley), Evan (Rachel), Hilary, Brooks, Chad (Elyse), Christopher, Morgan and Wyatt and four great grandchildren: Charlie, Finnley, Ellie, and Maxwell.
A Memorial Service was held at Rosebank U. M. Church in Rising Sun, MD April 21th at 10 AM. Burial will be in New Milford, CT at a later date. In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be made to her church, Rosebank U.M. Church, 1743 Telegraph Road, Rising Sun, MD 21911.
