Eugene T. “Gene” Meekins, age 77, of Elkton, MD, passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Singerly Manor Nursing Home in Elkton, MD. He was born on July 30, 1938, in Elkton, MD to the late Roland and Ella Clayton Meekins.
A resident of Elkton all his life, he worked for General Cable, later Pirelli Cable, for over twenty five years, He served his country in the Army, where he was stationed in Europe. While there, he developed a fondness for military history, especially World War II. He had quite an extensive collection of memorabilia. Gene also liked model trains and owned a couple of motorcycles at one time or another. All his life, Gene was an active member of the Singerly Fire Company, including serving as its Chief. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his brothers, Ronald, and his wife, Hazel; Dudley, and his wife Lynn; Ken and his wife Darlene; Gerry, and Joe, all of Elkton, MD; and 12 nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 259 East Main Street, Elkton, MD 21921. Friends and family may visit from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Cherry Hill, MD.
