Eugene “Mike” Mead Caffey, III of Port Deposit, MD, age 71 passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018. He was born on August 27, 1947 in Charlottesville, VA to the late Eugene Mead Caffey, Jr. and Lyndall Buntin Caffey.
Mike was a proud graduate and member of the Alumni Society of the University of Virginia. He went on to teach English for Cecil County Public Schools, and was a favorite among the students, before retiring after 33 years from Rising Sun High School. Mike was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Elkton, MD, as well as a member of the Sons of the American Legion.
A train enthusiast, Mike shared his passion for trains as a member of the Train Collectors Association and enjoyed hosting an Annual Train Night. He liked to play board games, read, and watch Jeopardy. Mike enjoyed vegetable gardening, watching the Orioles and Indians, and traveling.
Mike was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, and wonderful friend who expressed his love for life with his calm demeanor and sweetly optimistic nature. He was a great story teller and had a wonderful sense of humor. Mike enjoyed regular outings with the Pearl Street Marching Society, PHS Class of ’64 meetings, and his weekly recycling runs.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Judith Caffey; three daughters: Regina Cheesman (Scott) Perryville, MD, Sarah Savage (Matthew) of Newark, DE and Julie Tyler (Ken) of Pittsburg, PA; grandson, Lochlin; sister, Frances Spina; nephew Michael Jack and his family; niece Robyn Lafferty and her family; and two brothers-in-law: Thomas and Charles Shick and their families.
Visitations will be held from 1pm-3pm and 6pm-8pm on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Monday, October 29, 2018 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 105 N. Bridge St., Elkton, MD 21921. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mike’s honor may be made payable to “Trinity Episcopal Church Food Pantry” or “Guiding Eyes for the Blind” and sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box 248, Rising Sun, MD 21911.
