Mr. Caffey was a phenomenal English teacher! He taught me in RSHS in the mid 90s, when I was in 9th grade. I remember his love of bubble lights, one of the books we read in his class, and the way he would roll the tv in so we could watch an old Twilight Zone episode on occasion. He was always kind and calm.:) I’m an English teacher now, in VA - not far from where he was born, and was just telling my students about his class this week. I decided to get online to look him up and am so sorry to see that he passed away. I appreciate his love of language arts, and have such fond memories of his teaching! He was a wonderful human.

Mike was our classmate in high school. He always kept us amused with his free and easy demeanor and his rare talent for breaking the ice and making things seem uncomplicated. This was a person we could not forget because he really liked us. And with this guy what's not to love?

My heart goes out to you on the unexpected loss of your Father. I did not personally know Mr. Caffey. My husband bears a slight resemblance to him and was once asked if he was the teacher from Rising Sun. I could tell that the woman who inquired held Mr. Caffey in high regard. Please accept my deepest sympathy. Know, with confidence, that your Father is resting peacefully in the arms of Jesus. I pray that all of his family and loved ones may feel the compassionate presence of God during this most difficult time. Sending you love and hugs.

My mother had a picture of Big Mike on her dresser all the years I was growing up. She had other cousins as well but Mike's picture is the one that I remember the most to this day. He was 15 or 16 years older than I was which along with geographic distance meant that I never really knew him very well but the times I met Big Mike he was always a mellow smart man and had a nice laugh. I believe you'll see him again one day and I pray for Judy and the family for comfort and peace. God Bless cousin Mike, Eugene Mallonee

Mr Caffey is one of the greatest men I've ever met in my life and one of the best colleagues I've ever worked with. I will be forever grateful for Caf taking me under his wing when I was a first year teacher at RSHS. Mike was so relaxed, calming, and had such great perspective to share and help me as a young teacher. Also, sharing a wall between our classrooms I always was educated by the sounds of "6 flick-fridays"!! Mike always had a smile that was infectious. Of course, it didn't take him long to introduce to his crew at Legion. Many of great times and stories, Caf was a one of a kind.

I hope he knows the positive influence he has had on so many students, colleagues, friends, and surely his family. My thoughts and prayers go out to Mr Caffey's family. Heaven has gained another amazing person to help watch over us all.

Always in Baseball; your friends
Dan and Christina Fravel
