Etheridge “Stan” Leo Stanley, 91, of Elkton, MD, peacefully passed away to be with his Lord on Sunday, September 8, 2024. Born on December 21, 1932, in Shallotte, NC, he was the beloved son of the late George Clarence Stanley, Sr. and Geneva Catherine (Rhoades) Stanley.
A proud graduate of Shallotte High School, Class of 1950, Stan served his country in the Army National Guard. He dedicated his career to working as a dredger along the East Coast, ensuring the waterways remained navigable for shipping.
Stan had a deep passion for Bluegrass music and was a talented mandolin player. His craftsmanship extended to woodworking, where he created beautiful, lasting pieces that his family will cherish. Additionally, he embraced oil painting, showcasing his artistic talents in various works. As a devoted member of Charlestown Missionary Baptist Church, he was actively involved in church life and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Stan was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Geraldine Stanley, brother, George C. Stanley, Jr. and grandson, Tyler L. Stanley.
He is survived by his loving wife, Reba Iona (Canter) Stanley; his sons, Dean Stanley and Kerry Stanley and his wife Vanessa; his daughter, Kimberly Stanley and her husband Michael; his brother, Carl Stanley; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Stan’s Life will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Charlestown Missionary Baptist Church, 1168 W Old Philadelphia Rd, North East, MD. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 PM.
