Esther B. McMenamin, age 97, of Newark, DE passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Churchman’s Village. Esther was born on October 1, 1915 in Luzerne County, PA to the late William and Elizabeth (Smally) Bennett.
She graduated from W. Pittston High School in 1933 and Mansfield College in 1937 where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She then graduated with a Masters degree in Education from the University of Delaware in 1955. Esther worked for the Alfred I. School District as a teacher and reading specialist from 1949 until 1976. It was there she met her beloved husband David McMenamin who passed in September 1988.
Esther is survived by her daughter, Jean T. Smith of Newark, DE; granddaughter, Dawn Shore of Glen Mills, PA; great granddaughters, Rebecca Farrell of Downingtown, PA and Katherine Shore of Chadds Ford, PA and great-great grandson, Parker Farrell of Downington, PA.
Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church c/o the funeral home.
