Elizabeth “Betty” Annie Ayars of Wilmington, DE, age 91, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2017. She was born on April 24, 1926 in Newark, DE to the late Clifford J. Ayars and Mattie Peters (Guthrie) Ayars.
Betty enjoyed taking photographs with her Kodak Brownie camera. As a teen, Betty was active in the Methodist youth group, putting on plays with her contemporaries. She loved reading, writing and gardening. She also liked baking and collected recipes. She would make cookies for the church bake sales. She grew beautiful peonies and planted gladiolus, snapdragons and tomatoes in her garden. Her favorite flower was violets and every birthday from her 6th until her 90th, she would pick the same number of violets as her birthday plus one. Betty loved all animals especially cats. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Betty is survived by her niece, Lynn E. Ayars and two great-nephews: Kristopher Kauffman and Mark Kauffman. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her two brothers: Mark C. Ayars and Paul G. Ayars and her long-time companion, Paul Frazer.
A visitation in Betty’s honor will be held between 6PM and 8 PM on Monday July 31, 2017 at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711. A Celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday August 1, 2017 at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home. Family and friends may begin visiting at 10AM. Burial will follow at Ebenezer United Methodist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bettys honor may be made payable to “Ebenezer United Methodist Church” and sent in care of the funeral home.
