Edward “Ed” Thomas Belote Sr.

June 6, 1944 - March 30, 2023

Edward “Ed” Thomas Belote Sr. age 78 passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, March 30, 2023. He was born on D-Day, June 6, 1944, in Chester, PA to the late Benjamin Grice Belote Sr. and Lubka “Lillian” (Petryk) Belote.

Ed was a proud graduate of Newark High School class of 1963. He enlisted in the US Navy where Ed spent two years on the USS Dyess DD 880, and two years inactive duty for a total of four years. He worked for 28 years at DuPont as a Lab Technician. Ed was past member of Jaegers Sportsmen Club (President), Rising Sun Organic Farm (President) and Cecil Soil Magazine (President). He was an avid hunter and gardener. He also enjoyed reading, and listening to country music. His children and grandchildren will always remember him as a “Great Storyteller”. He gave them the joy of laughter and excitement when they share stories he told them.

The family would like to say Thank You to all the family, friends, doctors and nurses from Christiana Care, Amedisys Hospice Care, and Rising Sun Community Fire Company that helped us through this process.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Carol W. Belote; son, Edward Belote Jr.; daughter, Joyce Belote Ritchie Urbanski (Ken); grandchildren, Emily Belote Brandon (Ken), Edward Belote III (Hannah Morehead), Jessica Ritchie (Nick Moore), Jaclyn Ritchie Schmitt (Jason), John Ritchie, Ali Urbanski, Jacob Urbanski, Matthew Urbanski, Luke Urbanski, and Bella Urbanski; great-grandchildren, River Madison Brandon, and Earl Reed Brandon; brothers, Benjamin Belote Jr., Bill Belote, and Bert Belote; sisters, June Belote Hall, Nancy Simpkins, and Linda Belote; former son-in-law, Gary Ritchie; and many nieces and nephews; and “The Boys” Joey and Andy.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services for Ed will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to the “Rising Sun Community Fire Company” or “American Legion Post 194” or “Rising Sun Lions Club” in care of R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., PO Box 248, Rising Sun, MD 21911.

I miss you

I was Eddie’s brother-in-law … I remember Eddie over the many years. Eddie always had a smile and a story(ies) to tell. Eddie loved his garden and his magazine CECIL SOIL. I will miss Eddie.
