Edward S.F. Newsum, 87, of Rising Sun, MD, passed away August 24, 2014 at Union Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Essequibo, Guyana on February 7, 1927, Edward was the son of the late William Newsum and Antionetta Reese. A hard worker throughout his life, Edward went to school evenings studying accounting and received his degree. He worked during his life at Singer Sewing Machine Co., several department stores and lastly at Guyana National Trading Corp. until he retired. He then went to Denmark to live and in 1991 came to the United States. He was an active volunteer in many organizations and also served as a Scoutmaster. He was known as a “jack of all trades” and could repair almost anything and was a talented woodworker. Edward enjoyed watching the classic westerns and playing BINGO. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Surviving are his two sons, Edward Newsum and wife Nalini of Cecilton, and Percy Newsum and wife Jennifer of Rising Sun, MD; and his three daughters, Evelyn Newsum-Tjon Atsoi and husband Edward of the Netherlands, Joan Koulen and husband Derek of Elkton, MD and Janice Timmers and husband Marc of Switzerland; 14 grandchildren, Ernest, Lisa, Sephron, Steffon, Sachkia, Melissa, Alicia, Jeremy, Chellsay, Temash (Ricky), Trevor, Tereq, Tammy and Marisa; and four great grandchildren, Cameron, Julissa, Zoey, and Ayden.
A visitation will be held at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, 259 East Main St., Elkton, MD 21921 on Wednesday August 27 from 6-8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elkton on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be Friday August 29 at 12 noon at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ. There will be a gathering (repast), after the burial at Ramiesh Budhram, 298 Central Avenue, Rahway, NJ 07065. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Parkinson’s Foundation and mailed to the funeral home.
