Edward John Hunt, age 79, of Elkton, Maryland, passed away peacefully on April 22,
2026. Born on October 26, 1946, in Auburn, New York, he was the beloved son of the
late Thomas and Dorothy (née Currier) Hunt.
Ed proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. In
recognition of his dedicated service, he was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, the
Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal. His time in the military
was a source of deep pride throughout his life and reflected his enduring commitment to
service.
Following his honorable discharge, Ed built a respected career as an electrician in Seneca
Falls, NY and West Palm Beach, Florida. Known for his strong work ethic, skill, and
reliability, he earned the admiration of both colleagues and customers alike. Even in
retirement, his desire to serve others continued through his volunteer work with the
Veterans Administration, where he found meaning in supporting fellow veterans.
At home, Ed was known for his warm spirit and many passions. He was an accomplished
chef, especially fond of preparing Italian cuisine for his family and friends. His love of
gardening went hand-in-hand with his culinary talents, as he took great pride in growing
his own vegetables and flowers—many of which found their way into his kitchen. He
was known to hit the dance floor until wee hours of night. He enjoyed listening to classic
country western music, with a special fondness for Patsy Cline. He shared a love for
NASCAR with family and friends and always happy to compare drivers and watch the
races on a Sunday afternoon. Ed had a cheerful disposition, a positive outlook on life,
infectious smile, and was often found happily humming a tune, bringing a sense of
comfort and joy to those around him.
Ed was preceded in death by; his parents, Thomas and Dorothy Hunt; his brother, Gary
Hunt; and his sister, Karen Antonik.
He is survived by his devoted children: Jeanine Upchurch and her husband, Kevin
Kantor; Lisha Ferris and her husband, Joseph Sbriglia; and Chad Hunt. He was a proud
and loving grandfather to Brandon Upchurch, Taylor (Benjamin) Richards, Joshua
(Megan), Gabriel Kantor, Abigail (James) Deasel, Zackary Sbriglia, Isabella Sbriglia, and
Benjamin Sbriglia. He was also a great-grandfather to seven great-grandchildren. He is
survived by extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Services will be held at 10 AM, on May 23rd at St. Margaret Parish, 141 N. Hickory Ave.
Bel Air Maryland 21014 followed by a Celebration of Life at Magerks Pub and Grill.
