Edward J. Smith, age 59, of Elkton, MD passed away Saturday, August 17, 2019. He was born in England on February 9, 1960 to the late Michael and Elizabeth (Walsh) Smith.

Ed was a member of the Irish Army before going on to work in the aircraft industry, having spent the last 10 years working for General Electric. He loved swimming, kayaking and fishing with his family. Ed enjoyed playing rugby and cycling as well as visiting the beach at the Jersey shore. He was passionate about cars and motorcycles.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Margaret Smith; two sons: Andrew and Thomas Smith; daughter, Mary Kate Smith; brother, Noel Smith; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Norman Lawn.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, August 19, 2019 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, 259 W. Main St., Elkton, MD 21921. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at Immaculate Conception Church, 455 Bow St., Elkton, MD 21921. Burial will be at 2:00 pm at the Fairview Cemetery, Westfield, NJ.

Margaret and family, I am so sad to hear of Ed's passing. What a joy he was to me always! Both mentor and student, sounding board and guide, he made such a wonderful difference. May songs of the angels welcome you and guide you home. Amen

Ed was a good friend. I worked with Ed at GE. He was very conscious, hard working and doing the right things for the company kind of person. I will cherish the T-Shirt he sent from Newark facility. I will miss his enthusiasm he displayed whenever talked with him. II will MISS him. I also know he was very devoted to his family. May he rest in peace. May God give His love and grace to the family.
