



Edna Elizabeth Cox of Rising Sun, MD, age 83, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2020. Edna was born on July 3, 1936 in Newark, DE to the late Herbert Wood and Elizabeth (Lee) Wood.
Edna was a 1956 graduate of Newark High School. After graduating she worked in the Agriculture Department at the University of Delaware. Joseph “Al” Alan Cox took a weekend leave from the Marines in Quantico to Delaware and met the love of his life. Edna and Al were married on April 6, 1957. Later she left the workforce for 20 years to raise their 4 children. Once her children were grown, Edna went on to work as a para-professional at Shue Middle, Medill Elementary and John G. Leach where she worked with special needs children for 18 years until she retired in 1998.
Edna loved to read, listening to Elvis Presley music and working in her garden. She loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren, she hosted Thanksgiving and the family reunion for decades and looked forward to the girl’s yearly beach trip with her daughters and granddaughters. Edna attended Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Pike Creek, DE, volunteered at the New Castle County polling for several years for primary and presidential elections, she was a member of the North South Skirmish Association (a historical conservation group) and was a member of the 3rd MD Artillery where she was considered everyone’s mom and mom-mom.
Edna is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Joseph “Al” Alan Cox; two sons: Ron Cox and his wife Nancy, and Mike Cox and his wife Stacey; two daughters: Karen Maloney and her husband Rob, and Andrea Brown and her husband Steve; ten grandchildren: Andrew, Amy, Rachel, Chelsea, Sarah, Nicole, Emily, Jessica, Ethan, Kaitlin; and 6 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Edna is preceded in death by her brother, Willard Wood.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Amedysis Hospice, Tawnda Churchill, Helen Graham Center and the Christiana Hospital nurses of the 6th floor.
A celebration of Edna’s life will be held from 12pm-3pm on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at the home of Al and Edna Cox. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to “Lions Club International” and sent in care of R.T. Foard Funeral Home, PO Box 248, Rising Sun, MD 21911.
