Edna Dora Greenplate Graves, 84, of Newark, DE, passed away at home February 9, 2012 surrounded by her family.
A lifelong resident of Newark, Edna was the daughter of the late James P. and Mary Anna Van Aulen Greenplate. She retired from Stein-Haskell Dupont after 32 years at the age of 78. Edna was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church and the Newark Historical Society. She had a profound appreciation of history, antiques and musical theatre. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed bowling in her younger days. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. The family is grateful to the wonderful staff from Home Instead Senior Care and Seasons Hospice.
She is survived by her daughters Amy Eschenbrenner and her husband Donald of Newark and Holly Hanson and her husband Harlan of Sturgis, SD and a son Robert Graves of Chicago, IL; 2 grandchildren, Neil and Michael Birdwell of Goodlettesville, TN; a brother, Robert F. Greenplate, Sr. of Newark and two sisters, Jane Phyllis Brown of Glen Arm, MD and Mary Louise Lee of Port Deposit, MD.
A service honoring her life will be held at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 525 Polly Drummond Hill Road, Newark, DE 19711 on Saturday February 18, 2012 at 12 noon. Friends and family may call at the church beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
