Eckhard Wagner (85) passed away peacefully on December 4, 2025. Born on January 6, 1940, in Wertheim, Germany, he was the cherished son of the late Karl and Rosalinde Wagner and the devoted husband of 63 years to Diane (nee, Reamer) Wagner.
At the age of nineteen, Eckhard immigrated to the United States in search of opportunity and a new beginning. He proudly served his adopted country as a member of the U.S. Army, and later fulfilled one of the greatest honors of his life when he became a naturalized American citizen on April 30, 1965.
Eckhard was a proud member of Carpenters Local 626 (United Brotherhood of Carpenters), where he refined his craftsmanship and built lifelong friendships. Always eager to grow and adapt, he later mastered emerging technologies and enjoyed a second career as an Information Technician for NuCar Chevrolet in New Castle, Delaware, where he worked until his retirement. He also volunteered his time at the Newark Senior Center, offering his skills and kindness to help others in his community.
In his younger years, Eckhard enjoyed skiing—especially traveling with Diane to the mountains of Vermont. He was also an avid NASCAR fan who attended many races, and one of the highlights of his life was meeting legendary driver Dale Earnhardt at the track.
Eckhard valued the quiet, simple rhythms of life and found peace in moments of reflection and solitude. His gentle spirit, steady presence, and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Diane Wagner; his sister, Linde Krauss, and her husband, John; nephews, Paul Gray and John Gray; as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will forever cherish his memory.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 at R. T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home – 122 West Main Street, Newark, Delaware. A celebration of his life will follow at 11:00 AM.
