Dwight O. Woollens, Jr., age 83 of Landenberg, PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in East Nottingham, PA on November 23, 1930 to the late Dwight, Sr., and Mary Helen (McMichael) Woollens.
Dwight worked as a plant mechanic at several facilities in the area before retiring from Avon after 28 years of service. His first love was farming, and he maintained a farm in one form or another throughout his life. Even after he sold his farm and settled on his “little plot” of 6.2 acres, he continued to keep a garden of vegetables and flowers. He loved to drive in his car, and traveling by car. Dwight would often make day trips to Lancaster County, one of his favorites. He enjoyed country music, especially Patsy Cline and Don Williams.
He is survived by his wife Ethel, son Scott Woollens and wife Carol of Sanford NC; brother Dale Woollens and wife Patricia of Deland, FL; sister Sara Lysle of Landenberg, PA; grandchildren David Woollens, Jr., of Landenberg, PA, Nathan Woollens, Lyman Woollens, and Virginia Woollens, all of Sanford, NC; 11 step children; and 8 nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his first wife Virginia, and second wife Charlotte; son David Woollens, Sr.; sister Mary Alice Dudkewitz; and stepson Ron Jenkins.
A Life Celebration service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, Inc., 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711. Friends and family may visit one hour prior beginning at 10AM. Burial will follow at Kemblesville UMC Cemetery in Kemblesville, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution checks can be made to “Brandywine River Valley Hospice” and sent c/o the funeral home.
