Duane Melvin Danklef, 76, of Newark, DE, passed away in his home on October 25, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on February 6, 1948, to Melvin Arthur Danklef and Eleanor Mae (Brown) Danklef.
Duane proudly achieved the Life Rank in the Boy Scouts of America. He embraced the role of an educator, in which he served many positions. He was an Industrial Arts Teacher, Student Assistance Center Teacher, and Visiting Teacher. He held a position at Richardson Park Junior High School, Stanton Junior High School and in many buildings in the Red Clay School District as a Visiting Teacher.
Duane had many passions that he pursued. He was blessed with a green thumb and was passionate about gardening vegetables and flowers. He was especially proud of his roses. He had a strong interest in technology and always had to have the latest gadget. He also loved sports, both coaching and watching all kinds. As a Pennsylvania native, he was especially fond of the Phillies, Flyers, Eagles, Sixers, and Steelers. As far as college sports, he had a strong love for Alabama Crimson Tide. He found great enjoyment in woodworking and building projects, fishing and camping, as well as cooking for his loved ones. His family, which also included his dogs Bree and Sage, meant the world to him. He cherished family vacations, get-togethers, and parties.
Duane is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years: Bernadette Danklef; their children: Janet Borders, and her husband Ron, Candice Cook, Steven Danklef, and his wife Meaghan, Lindsey Ferrero, and her husband Michael; grandchildren: Ronni Hawkins, Kaitlin Borders, Sydney Cook, Nathan Cook, Benjamin Ferrero, Delaney Ferrero, and Brayden Ferrero; and great-grandchild: Tucker Hawkins. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister: Sharon Danklef.
