Husband of E. Carolyn Verbit (nee Hyman) of Wilmington, DE, son of the late David A & Cecelia E Verbit, peacefully passed away on May 4, 2021. Dr. Verbit practiced medicine in Wilmington Delaware for over 50 years. He was born in Philadelphia and was a graduate of the 176 Class of Central High School, earned degrees from Temple University and Temple University Medical School. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, daughter Vicki (Verbit) Dann and her husband JC Dann and grandchildren Ashley, Jake, Alle, and Julia.
Dr. Verbit, a World War II veteran, served in the 66th Division attached to the 12th Army Group of the United States Armed Services in the European Theatre of Operation. Upon discharge from the military, he completed his undergraduate education at Temple University and went on to study medicine and earn his MD from Temple University Medical School. He then settled in Wilmington, Delaware opening his practice of Internal Medicine until his retirement some 50 years later.
Stanley was an avid, voracious reader, book collector and enjoyed building model doll houses. Of note, he wrote a two-volume book on his WWII military service experience replete with photos taken throughout his service and built doll houses for his grandchildren.
Dr. Verbit is also survived by sister Ruth (Verbit) Feldman, brother-in-law and sister Leonard and Ronnie (Rosalie Verbit) Luber, and brother, Alan Verbit.
Dr. Verbit will be interred at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Bear, Delaware. Service and burial will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
