Dorothy H. Brokaw, 94, of Rising Sun, MD passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, November 15, 2013.
Born September 28, 1919, Dot was the daughter of the late John C. and Margaret Gertrude (Reeder) Hindman, Sr. Dot graduated from Rising Sun High School and went on to attend Goldey-Beacom College. A lifelong resident of Rising Sun, MD, Dot dedicated 23 years to working for the Cecil County School District as a bookkeeper for the Rising Sun High School. Dot was a lifelong member of Janes United Methodist Church and a member of the Union Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. She was a fan of the Baltimore Orioles and loved playing bridge.
Dot is survived by her son, John Kirk Brokaw and his wife, Nancy of Forest Hill, MD; daughter, Barbara Ann Kiser and her husband, Jim of McCordsville, IN; grandchildren, Michael P. Kiser and his wife, Tracy of Indianapolis, IN, Gayle E. Mumphrey and her husband, Scott of Noblesville, IN, Wendy E. Kiser of Indianapolis, IN, Bryan A. Kiser of McCordsville, IN, and Nicole E. Brokaw of Forest Hill, MD; great grandchildren, Caleb P. Kiser of FL, Abigail N. and Amanda E. Mumphrey of Noblesville, IN and Evan James Kiser of McCordsville, IN.
Including her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 50 years, Caleb Kirk Brokaw, who passed away in 1995; brother, John C. Hindman; and her two sisters-in-law, Mary B. Wiley and Sarah K. Brokaw.
The family would like to send special thanks to Dot’s dedicated team of caregivers for all of their help over the past 18 months.
A service honoring Dot, will be held at 1pm November 19, 2013 at Janes United Methodist Church, 213 Walnut St., Rising Sun, MD 21911, where family and friends may visit beginning at 12 Noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to Janes UMC or Season’s Hospice and sent to R.T. Foard Funeral Home, 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911.
